Over a period of four decades my work was devoted to the investigation of nucleic acids and their nucleobase constituents.  My laboratory designed and synthesized modified nucleosides as potential antiviral and anticancer agents and constructed modified nucleic acids for use as biochemical tools, diagnostic probes, and therapeutics.  The work evolved towards nanotechnology and ultimately integrated concepts of biochemistry, cell biology, self-assembly and nanotechnology, using materials composed of DNA, RNA, peptide nucleic acids, nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes.  Many of these studies involved light mediated processes. 

After 2011 my work shifted to the development of new visual and tactile models of natural phenomena and related philosophical concepts with a particular emphasis on the primordial universe.
