Speaker:
Dr. Courtney Aldrich, Professor, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Minnesota
Location:
RHPH 164
Date / Time:

Host:
Dr. Dan Flaherty
Abstract:

The design and synthesis of new antibiotics targeting different bacterial pathways (siderophore, biotin, folate, energy metabolism) will be described along with the detailed biochemical and microbiological characterization. The presentation will be a mix of chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology and will illustrate the diversity of contemporary approaches to inhibitor discovery including rationale design (transition-state, multisubstrate, and mechanism-based inhibitors), fragment-based drug design, high-throughput screening, and redesign of natural products.
