NumberExams, QuizzesEachTotals
3one-hour exams (evenings)100 pts.300 pts.
11ten-minute quizzes (two lowest dropped)11 pts.99 pts.
1Comprehensive final examination200 pts.200 pts.
 Overall total points 599 pts.

For each of the hourly exams, one lecture will be canceled. The dates and times of one-hour (evening) exams and the corresponding canceled lectures are yet to be announced

Quizzes are held in class every Friday in weeks 1 to 14 that do not involve an exam. Each will be 2 to 5 questions. Approximately 10 minutes will be allowed for each quiz. The lowest two quiz scores will be dropped. Nine quizzes will count towards your grade (11 pts. each). No make-up for quizzes!

Test questions: Approximately 10-20% structures, approximately 40% essay questions, approximately 40% multiple choice, matching, etc. Tests and Quizzes are closed book and notes. Make-up for tests with legitimate excuse only (physician or hospital); call/see your instructor before the test.

Regrades: Regrades on manually graded questions are allowed but only by the TA that did the grading. No requests for regrades will be accepted more than 2 weeks after return of the exam or quiz.

Tests and quizzes are "closed book and notes." Any student committing an act of academic dishonesty, such as copying during a quiz or exam from neighbors, notes, books, handouts, programmable computers/calculators, or changing graded answers for regrade, etc. will automatically receive a course grade of "F".

Course Grades

No Incompletes will be given in this course!

A curve will be used for the final letter grade based on average for the class, which equals a "C" grade. For calculation of the final grade, 599 pts. = 100%. Use the following curve if the class average is less than 75%:

Class average + 15% pts.=A/B boundary
Class average + 5% pts.=B/C boundary
Class average=middle C
Class average - 5% pts.=C/D boundary
Class average - 15% pts.=D/F boundary

If class avg. is > 75%, then > 90% = 'A', 80-90% = 'B', 70-80% = 'C', 60-70% = 'D', < 60% = 'F'.

General

  1. Questions, discussion, and corrections in lecture are encouraged.
  2. Class attendance: attendance will not be part of the final grade.

EXAMINATION POLICIES

There will be 11 (10 min) quizzes each worth 11 points that will be given at the beginning of Friday class periods when scheduled. The 9 quizzes with the highest scores will be used in computing your final grade. NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES WILL BE GIVEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. If you have an excused absence for a quiz, send the written excuse from your doctor, faculty member (for an excused school activity) or Dean’s representative (family emergency) to Prof. Morré or his secretary, Peggy Runck, and the excused absence will be given consideration in borderline cases at the end of the semester.

If you are forced to miss an examination due to unforseeable circumstances, contact Prof. Morré or Mrs. Runck by telephone or e-mail PRIOR to 4:30 p.m. of the day of the examination. If Dr. Morré is not available, leave a telephone message that includes the reason for your absence and how you may be contacted. We will continue the policy instituted under MCMP 304 to not give make up exams but, in the case of an excused absence, to base the exam total on the two remaining exams. This policy applies only to a student with a valid excuse as detailed above for quizzes and not to the entire class. Students who have not made arrangements with Dr. Morré according to the above guidelines and who have not provided a valid written excuse will be without an examination grade and will receive zero for that examination.

Attendance is not mandatory for a grade but it is highly suggested that you plan to attend every lecture. Keep up with the course. Quizzes and examinations will be based on material presented in class and the study questions. The text is considered supplementary. Written answers will not be provided to the study questions. The questions may be discussed in class or at the help session prior to the exam but each student is expected to generate answers to the study questions on his/her own as part of the course objectives. Please do not make appointments with the instructor or the TA’s to go over study questions on an individual basis. This defeats the purpose of the study questions. Students who frequently skip class also should not expect the instructor (nor the teaching assistants) to give make-up classes or provide special help. If it is necessary to miss a lecture, arrange to get notes from someone in the class. There will be extra handouts available that you can get from the TA’s.

Examinations will be graded and the results returned to the students as soon as available.

Regrading

Regrades on manually graded questions are allowed but only by the TA that did the grading. No requests for regrades will be accepted more than 2 weeks after return of the exam or quiz. For makeup exams, the entire examination must be submitted to the instructor for regrade.

This course will be taught in compliance with the University Policies pertaining to prejudice and cheating as stated in "University Regulations".
