Working Group Description

Members of the Immunology & Infectious Disease working group are broadly interested in human pathogens and the body's response to infection. We seek to understand how pathogens interact with their human host and to identify new antimicrobial drugs and drug targets. Members of this group use a wide variety of techniques and experimental approaches, including organic synthesis, computer aided drug design, computational biology, high resolution NMR and systems biology. Pathogens of interest range from bacteria, to malaria parasites, to human immunodeficiency virus. Many members of this group are also members of the Bindley Biosciences Center, which facilitates and supports multidisciplinary research projects. Faculty in the Immunology and Infectious Disease working group pursue research in the following areas:

  1. Regulation and function of protein-protein interactions associated with cell signaling and viruses
  2. Identification and characterization of host-pathogen protein-protein interactions
  3. Design and synthesis of new antiviral drugs
  4. Design and synthesis of inhibitors of microbial enzymes involved in pathogenesis
  5. Signal transduction pathways in B and T cells.
