Faculty Position in Drug Discovery
The Departments of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology (http://www.mcmp.purdue.edu/) and Chemistry (http://www.chem.purdue.edu/) at Purdue University invite applicants for a joint tenure-track faculty position. Candidates should apply modern synthetic organic techniques to the development of drugs and/or modulators for biological targets of pharmaceutical interest.
Both Departments offer unique multidisciplinary environments with synergistic strengths in chemistry, biochemistry and biology. Synthetic chemistry is an active and integral component of both Departments, with active funded research programs focusing on the synthesis of biologically significant molecules. Chemistry and biology are well integrated and applied with the goal of improving human health. MCMP also possesses a strong core of pharmacology faculty, and Purdue has notable strengths in cancer, neuroscience, and virology research. The Purdue Cancer Center (http://www.cancer.purdue.edu/), the Markey Center for Structural Biology (http://www-structure.bio.purdue.edu/) and the Bindley Bioscience and Birck Nanotechnology Centers in Discovery Park (http://www.discoverypark.purdue.edu/) offer excellent opportunities for collaborations on drug targets of contemporary interest. The recent addition of a group of faculty who apply systems biology approaches to drug discovery further enhances the collaborative environment. In summary, a strong core group of synthetic organic chemists, a complementary group of outstanding biochemists and biologists, and diverse student recruiting opportunities in the Purdue community offer great potential for scientific impact and success.
Candidates must have a Ph. D. degree in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or related scientific field and relevant post-doctoral experience. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a strong extramurally-funded research program. Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is also required. Applicants should send a curriculum vita, a summary of planned and/or ongoing research, and the names of three references to:
